General Information

The 2020 GCMAS Meeting will be held June 1-5, 2020, at West Chester University (WCU) in West Chester, Pennsylvania. WCU's Sykes Student Union is located across the street from first class dormitories and only one mile from the center of West Chester, Pennsylvania where we have reserved space at the historic Warner Hotel.

West Chester itself is 35-40 minutes from Philadelphia International Airport. West Chester and the surrounding area have been listed by CNN as one of the top 10 places to live in America due to proximity to Philadelphia, the presence of West Chester University, walkability, and restaurants/nightlife. West Chester has 86 restaurants within a 15-20 minute walk of the Warner Hotel.

GCMAS will have access to over 30,000 square feet in the Sykes Student Union, allowing us to continue with some of the initiatives we started in the previous year. With support from our Exhibitors we will create more hands-on mini-labs which can be used for tutorials/workshops and demonstrations throughout the conference.  In order to support these sessions, the meeting schedule will once again havve Scientific Programming begin mid-morning on Tuesday, and tutorials/workshops spread throughout the week.

Programming Format
The 2020 GCMAS program will follow the format introduced in 2019. Tutorials will be offered in the afternoons each day, instead of on a pre-conference day (typically on Tuesday). This year the scientific program will begin late Tuesday morning. Scientific Programming will conclude at approximately noon on Friday. The preliminary program can be found here.

Mission and Purpose
The mission of GCMAS is to improve functional outcomes and the quality of life for individuals with any movement disorder at any age. We apply the latest technology and professional knowledge to measure, evaluate, and understand human movement, provide a forum for professional interaction and exchange of ideas, promote education, stimulate research, and disseminate current knowledge and best practices to enhance human movement and health.

In doing so, we seek:

  • To advance scientific knowledge, technical capabilities, and clinical practice in the field of human movement.
  • To provide a forum for professional interaction and collaboration among physicians, allied health professionals, engineers and scientists that will facilitate improved care for individuals with movement disorders.
  • To educate and encourage the career development of students interested in human movement research.

Target Audience
GCMAS prides itself on being a true multidisciplinary society. Attendees of GCMAS meetings are professionals from diverse disciplines who are actively involved in human movement analysis and research in clinics, academic labs, and other settings. Attendees include, but are not limited to: physicians (e.g., orthopedic surgeons, physiatrists, neurologists, and podiatrists), physical therapists, engineers, kinesiologists, and biomechanists. These experts are working together to share scientific knowledge, advance clinical practice, and guide technological developments with the purpose of improving function and quality of life for individuals with movement disorders.
