Professors will discuss opportunities and challenges in building an academic career in Latin America. The focus will be on the doctoral program stage of that career. The objective is to foster enabling scholarly habits from early on in the academic life.

Prof Vassolo will introduce the activity and briefly describe goals and scope.

08:45-09:15 It´s trivia time! (Carla Fernandez and Maria Jose Murcia)

Assistant professors Carla Fernandez (INCAE, Costa Rica) and Maria Jose Murcia (IAE, Argentina) will facilitate a “Professional Discipline Trivia” as an ice-breaker of the DC. In a ludic format, the goal is to share important tips and details that may help participants developing an appreciation of the activities and skills involved in a successful scholarly career

09:15-10:00 Designing your career from the get-go (Roy Suddaby)

Building on the ice-breaker game dynamics, Professor Roy Suddaby, as a seasoned academic, will delve into a discussion on how to effectively manage your career, collaborate and network, balance teaching, service and research, added to several useful tips that may help participants in building effective habits of scholarship.

10:00-10:30 Networking Coffee Break

10:30-11:20 “How to Work on Your Dissertation Considering the Publishing Process” (Roberto Vassolo, David Hannah, Ivan Montiel, and Jorge Rivera)

Roberto Vassolo will lead and moderate a panel of Associate Editors and current editorial board members discussing the basics and some important tips towards facing participants’ first publication process

11:20-11:30 Wrap Up (Roberto Vassolo)

Prof Vassolo will summarize some key insights and close the activity.
