Minneapolis is the largest city in Minnesota that forms the "Twin Cities" with neighboring state capital, St. Paul. Known as "The City of Lakes," Minneapolis has 22 lakes located within city limits and many more in the surrounding area. Home to the largest of the four campuses of the University of Minnesota, the area has rich cultural resources and a reputation for civic involvement by ordinary citizens and by its business community. It is home to numerous major corporations, which draw on a well-educated labor pool. The region's population has become increasingly suburban, but urban redevelopment has kept its central cities vital and safe. Bisected by the Mississippi River and with its gleaming skyscrapers set amid glittering lakes, Minneapolis makes for an attractive and fun getaway.
