Bay Area Growth Fund
Mike Dorsey is ideally suited to lead the Bay Area Growth Fund as a consequence of his very successfully co-founding and management of the predecessor fund, the Bay Area Equity Fund, a top-decile returning double bottom line venture capital fund. Success in that effort was built upon 20 years of experience in investment banking to technology and other growth companies, a practice which included a concentration on venture capitalists as owners of these companies. In equity- oriented growth company investment banking, the quality and success of the client company is all that matters, much like in venture capital. These years focused on entrepreneurial companies, many of which became industry leaders, convinced him of the power of the venture capital model, its importance in the innovation economy and the power of strategic partnerships to reduce the risk and increase the growth rate of innovative companies. His training in public and private management at Yale SOM reflects a life long interest in public purpose work: impact investing provided him with the opportunity to combine that desire with his love of entrepreneurs and belief in the creativity and discipline of the private sector. The social improvement generated through the success of many of these portfolio companies, including Tesla, Solar City, Sunpower, Pandora and Revolution Foods is a testimony to the power of the private sector to promote positive change. Mike lives in Woodside CA with his wife Susan Ford Dorsey, President of the Sand Hill foundation, and has three adult children, the two out of school are social entrepreneurs.
