Bio

Ian is a trade facilitation and data harmonization expert with 23 years' experience based in New Zealand, the United Kingdom and Singapore. In the mid-90’s, he played a key role in one of the world's first Customs Modernization projects, while working for the New Zealand Customs Service. Over the years, he has been actively involved in many trade facilitation initiatives, for organisations such as the United Nations Centre for Trade Facilitation and e-Business (UN/CEFACT), the World Customs Organization (WCO) and the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC). After living 8 years in New Zealand, Ian returned to the United Kingdom, where he became a consultant to the government’s national trade facilitation body, SITPRO. During this time, he contributed to the development of UN/CEFACT’s Core Component Library (CCL) through the UNeDocs project, which led to him carrying out data harmonization for the ASEAN Single Window. One year later, he was engaged by the International Air Transport Association (IATA) to develop CargoXML standards for the air cargo industry’s e-Freight initiative. In his present role at CrimsonLogic, Ian is a member of the Trade Facilitation Centre of Excellence, which provides advice to Single Window project teams around the world. He has carried out various speaking and consultancy engagements, in Asia, the Middle East and North America, and he also represents CrimsonLogic at the Pan Asian e-Commerce Alliance (PAA). More recently, he carried out a data harmonization exercise for Oman’s new Integrated Customs Management System (ICMS) and Electronic Single Window (ESW).
