Tim McGrath is the Managing Director and a Principal Consultant of Document Engineering Services, an international consortium of experts supporting universal business interoperability through the use of open standards.  He is a popular speaker at conferences dealing with issues of interoperability and standardization for interorganizational information systems.

Tim is currently working with several international projects covering public procurement, global supply chains, electronic invoicing, customs, freight and logistics, focusing on the issues of governance and management of interoperability through the use of open standards.

From 1984 until 2000 he developed several innovative electronic data services to support the trade and transport sector in Australia.

Tim was then an active participant in the development of the ISO 15000 (ebXML) standards. He led the Quality Review Team for the ebXML initiative between 2000 and 2002, was a member of the ebXML Steering Committee.

In 2005 he published (with Robert J. Glushko) “Document Engineering: Designing Documents for Business Informatics and Web Services” from MIT Press.

Since July 2005 Tim has been the vice-chair of the OASIS Universal Language Technical Committee (UBL). In June 2011 he was appointed a Bureau Vice Chair to UN/CEFACT, responsible for both the Supply Chain and the Methodology and Technology programme development areas.

Between August 2009 and December 2010 he was Deputy Technical Director of the European Commissions’ Pan European Public eProcurement Online (PEPPOL) project.
