Mrs Harfield currently leads the Compliance and Enforcement Division of Australian Customs and Border Protection Service. This division has responsibility for operations to prevent and deter prohibited, harmful or illegal goods or people from entering Australia or operating illegally in our shore or environment.

The 3000 staff are deployed to airports, seaports, Cargo Examination Facilities, international mail and cargo environments. It includes staff with specialist compliance and investigation capabilities supported by advanced detection and operational technologies.  Mrs Harfield has previously served as Executive Director of Fusion, Target Development and Performance at the Australian Crime Commission (ACC). Mrs Harfield led the implementation of the Australian Crime Commission intelligence fusion capability delivering “big data” collection, investigation, management and analysis to combat serious and organised crime.

Mrs Harfield began her policing career in 1992 and progressed through a range of roles in the United Kingdom to Chief Superintendent with Her Majesty’s Inspectorate of Constabularies. Other roles have included Detective Chief Inspector with the National Crime Squad, Director of Intelligence & Crime Support with Warwickshire Police, and National Manager Performance and Governance at the Australian Crime Commission.  In 2000 Mrs Harfield attended the US Government International Visitors Program (IVP).

Mrs Harfield is recognised as a senior law enforcement leader with proven experience in operational command (including covert policing and intelligence); organisational strategic development; performance management; multi-agency collaboration and gender/diversity matters.  With Command level experience in firearms, CBRN and public order operations Mrs Harfield is a qualified senior investigating officer and covert operations authorising officer.

Mrs Harfield holds a Bachelor of Science (Hons) from the University of Liverpool and is a published author with Oxford University Press on topics of covert investigation, intelligence, and integrity management.
