Senator the Hon Michaelia Cash was sworn in as the Assistant Minister for Immigration and Border Protection and the Minister Assisting the Prime Minister for Women on 18 September 2013.

Senator Cash is a Liberal Senator for Western Australia.  She commenced her term as a Senator on 1 July 2008. Prior to entering Parliament, Michaelia was a senior lawyer with a national law firm Freehills in their Perth office.

Senator Cash holds an Honours Degree in Law from the University of London. She also holds a Bachelor of Arts (Social Science) from Curtin University in Perth, graduating with a triple major in public relations, politics and journalism.  In addition, she holds a Graduate Diploma in Legal Practice from the University of Western Australia.

In September 2010, Senator Cash was appointed to the dual roles of the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for Immigration and the Shadow Parliamentary Secretary for the Status of Women.  Senator Cash was Deputy Manager of Opposition Business in the Senate from 19 September 2012 – 18 September 2013.

Senator Cash has also been actively involved in several Senate committees including as the Deputy Chairman of the Joint Statutory: Australian Commission for Law Enforcement Integrity.

Senator Cash is married to Richard Price, a barrister.  She is the daughter of former Minister in the Western Australian Government and former President of the Legislative Council, the Hon George Cash AM.
