Masaaki Maeda is currently President & CEO of NTT DOCOMO USA, a wholly-owned subsidiary of NTT DOCOMO, Japan's leading mobile telecommunications company. He concurrently holds the title of Associate Senior Vice President in NTT DOCOMO and oversees new business development in the Americas. Mr. Maeda began his career in the Japanese telecommunications industry in 1983 at the Engineering Bureau of Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Public Corporation, which was privatized in 1985 and became Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Corporation (NTT). In March 1994, he moved to NTT DOCOMO, the mobile arm of NTT, and held a series of senior positions in network planning, human resource management, corporate affairs, and mobile multimedia services. In July 2002, he was assigned to NTT DOCOMO USA in New York to lead the company’s business development activities in the U.S. In September 2009, he opened the first NTT DOCOMO customer-service counter in the continental US aimed at providing a seamless user experience to customers travelling in North America. In April 2011, he launched a new wireless service, DOCOMO USA Wireless™, targeted at Japanese expats residing in the US. Currently, Mr. Maeda is spearheading the development of strategic partnerships with US hightech companies with an aim to introduce innovative products and business models into the Japanese wireless market. He has also started a new initiative to assist US-based Android™ application developers to enter the mobile apps market in Japan. Most recently, Mr. Maeda is vigorously exploring the wireless market in Latin America in an effort to cater to a growing demand by Japanese multinational corporations for reliable and sophisticated wireless solutions in the region. Mr. Maeda holds a bachelor and a master's degree in electrical engineering from the Tokyo Institute of Technology. In addition, he received an MBA from MIT's Sloan School of Management in June 2002.
