When Katie Wood first heard about Rodan + Fields from her sister, she simply wasn't interested. It just didn’t seem like a good fit, considering she knew nothing about skincare, was extremely busy and was passionate about her job as a high school special education teacher. It wasn’t until one day when she received a text message from her daycare provider with a picture of her four-month-old in a swing and her heart sank. She had never seen her daughter in a swing and knew right there she had missed a “first.” She realized she had very little control and wasn’t living the way she wanted or imagined at this stage in life. With a pit in her stomach and that R+F seed in the back of her head, she knew it was time to listen. Maybe this was just the sign she needed.

She took some time to reflect and a good, hard, honest look at her life. She realized she was overworked, underpaid and exhausted. She always felt torn to be in two places at once, struggling with work-life balance. She was living her life according to the decisions and standards she made 10 years ago and as her life was changing with kids, she knew that she needed to change, too. She decided to block the noise of the outside world and start living how she wanted to instead of how she thought she was supposed to. She eventually listened to her heart and decided to ""take a leap of faith"" in 2014. Katie knew the risk was not trying and refused to live with regrets.

She says her partnership with R+F has changed her life in ways she can't explain. While the income and perks are great, she says, ""The real beauty of this business is how it has changed my viewpoint on life. It’s not what you get in this business that matters, it’s who you become.” She is able to live her life on her terms, spending 20-30 hours each week growing her business, being more present for her children and taking the financial pressure off of her husband so that he could also follow his dreams and passions, which he was able to do when he left his corporate job in February 2017 to start his own hockey program. Most importantly, this business has made Katie realize that she is capable of way more than she realized. She is proud to leave a legacy for her daughters and show them that they too can go after what their heart desires. Her ultimate goal is to start a program with her sister to help empower young women. Katie believes that time and relationships are the two most important things in life and she will always be grateful to the Doctors for giving her the time to be with the people she loves.
