Dr. Nicole Nichols joined PNNL in 2015 as a staff scientist, where she is principal investigator and contributor to a variety of data science projects. She currently serves on the advisory board for the CS Department at Western Washington University and the Software Carpentry Foundation. In graduate school, Nicole re-directed her career from mechanical engineering to electrical engineering and was awarded both the NSF graduate student fellowship and ARCS foundation fellowship. She worked as a Teaching Assistant, Research Assistant, Graduate Staff Assistant, and worked professionally for the last year of school. She also helped establish a seminar for Ph.D. students to describe the variety of post-graduate career opportunities. She received her Ph.D. in 2016 from the University of Washington, Dept. of Electrical Engineering. Prior to graduate school, she was a Marie Curie Post Graduate Fellow at the University of East Anglia, UK and an engineer at Woods Hole Oceanographic Institute.
