Oak Ridge National Laboratory

Sarah Powers is an R&D staff member at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in the Computer Science and Mathematics Division and a joint faculty member with the University of Tennessee's Industrial and System Engineering Department. Her current work focuses on algorithms, predictive modeling and data analytics in the areas of HPC applications and Additive Manufacturing. Working at the intersection of mathematics, CS and statistics, Sarah’s research interests span a variety of areas related to Operations Research (OR) and applied mathematics including optimization, algorithm development and scalability, visualization techniques for ‘big data’ problems, and modeling & simulation. She enjoys using mathematics to find more effective ways to achieve results, make decisions and enabling others to understand the tools at their disposal to do the same. She received her M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Operations Research & Statistics from RPI, and B.S. in Mathematics from Gordon College.
