Dr. Okorafor is a social entrepreneur and founder of (Working to Advance STEM Education for African Women) WAAW Foundation - an international nonprofit founded in 2007, headquartered in Lagos, Nigeria and operating 17 chapters across 11 African countries. WAAW’s mission is to increase the pipeline of African girls educated in STEM and promote female engagement in technology. WAAW Foundation impacts over 10,000 girls each year and is the 2016 winner of the GEM Tech Awards from ITU and UN Women. Born in Nigeria, Unoma received her undergraduate degree from the University of Lagos, her M.Sc. degree from Rice University and her Ph.D. at Texas A & M University all in Electrical and Computer Engineering. She is a graduate of INSEAD’s Social Entrepreneurship program and Stanford Business School’s Executive Program in Social Entrepreneurship. She is a visiting computer science professor at the African University of Science and Technology, Abuja Nigeria.
