The University of Alabama/iAAMCS

Dr. Monica Anderson is an associate professor of Computer Science at The University of Alabama. Her research focuses on human interaction with intelligent multi-robot systems and smart environments. Projects include human in the loop surveillance systems and pervasive computing for in-home elder care. She also studies mechanisms that increase the number of female and underrepresented minorities in the computing sciences. Publications include work on affecting self-efficacy, outreach using robots and impact of tool selection on programming attitudes. Dr Anderson is a co-PI for the Institute for African American Mentoring in Computing Sciences (iAAMCS), an NSF sponsored broadening participation alliance that offers programs that assist students with getting “to and through” graduate school. She is also co-director of the Distributed Research Experiences for Undergraduates (DREU) program, which matches female and underrepresented students with a quality faculty mentor for a summer research experience at the faculty member’s home institution.
