Peter Cox, MB ChB DCH (SA) FFARCS(UK) FRCP(C)

Dr. Cox is a medical graduate of the University of Cape Town in South Africa, where he trained in paediatrics before changing his career path to Anaesthesia which he completed in the United Kingdom.  He received his Critical Care training at the Hospital for Sick Children Toronto, Canada and at Great Ormond Street Hospital in London, UK. Dr. Cox was appointed as a Staff Physician in the Department of Critical Care Medicine at The Hospital for Sick Children in 1989, and was recognized as a Fellow of the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in 1990. 

In addition to his clinical and administrative responsibilities, his research interests have focused primarily on pulmonary physiology and nosocomial infection in critically ill patients. Ongoing areas of interest are optimizing quality of care delivery, improving communication between teams and mitigating risk in care environments.

Dr Cox has been intimately involved with the Clinical Fellowship program at the Hospital for Sick Children since the late 1980’s. He was on the Curriculum and Standards Committee of the RCPSC Critical Care Workforce as well as been an Examiner in RCPSC certifying examination.

He has also been a principal organiser of The Canadian Critical Care Conference since inception in 2002. More recently he has been Chair of the Scientific Program Development for the 8th World Congress on Paediatric Intensive and Critical Care.
