Title Director of Machine Intelligence Company Yik Yak Bio Dr. Marsal Gavaldà is Director of Engineering, Machine Intelligence at Yik Yak. Marsal leads the team that is responsible for applying natural language processing and machine learning techniques to the sentiment analysis, trend discovery, and statistical classification systems which connect users to the content that they care most about. Previously, Marsal worked at Expect Labs, where he applied the latest advances in speech recognition, language understanding, information retrieval, and machine learning to the MindMeld anticipatory computing platform. Prior to that, Marsal was VP & Chief of Research at Veriant and VP of Research & Incubation at Nexidia. Marsal holds a PhD in Language Technologies and a MS in Computational Linguistics, both from Carnegie Mellon University, and a BS in Computer Science from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in Barcelona. Marsal also loves to write, and has written quiz questions for "Ui, avui!" (the top radio station in Catalonia, Spain) and a short story for the Catalonian magazine "Cavall Fort."
