Sergio Mujica was elected Deputy Secretary General of the World Customs Organization (WCO) in June 2009 and took up office in January 2010. In this capacity, he is responsible for assisting the Secretary General with the overall management of the WCO.

Before joining the WCO, Sergio Mujica worked for the Government of Chile for more than 15 years. His last position being that of Director General of Customs, a post he held since 2006.

From 2000 to 2006 Sergio Mujica was National Director of the National Fisheries Service and a Member of the Board of Directors for several public companies. He was Chief Lawyer for the National Forestry Agency from 1997 to 2000, and a Legal Legislative Consultant to the Ministry of Agriculture from 1994 to 1997.

Sergio Mujica obtained his degree in law with distinction in 1991 from the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He later obtained a masters degree in international law (LL.M.) at the American University in Washington DC (USA), and a Certificate in Management Skills at the Universidad de Chile’s Department of Industrial Engineering. He has been a Professor in Masters Programmes on Public Policies at various universities in Chile.
