Bio
Josh Seiden is Executive Director for Comcast Innovation Labs. Most recently, Seiden was responsible for the design and development of products and services that the CMC provides internally for Comcast’s cable and video business units and its industry customers. Seiden oversaw the design and implementation of HITS AxIS, the CMC’s centralized content services bureau for supporting the development and delivery of advanced interactive video services. HITS AxIS is designed to support deployment of applications that use the current Enhanced Television-Binary Interchange Format (ETV EBIF) platform as well as the emerging tru2way™ platform. HITS AxIS provides cable system operators serving smaller markets with additional revenue opportunities and a more competitive profile without incurring the significant capital outlays required to upgrade their cable system architectures in order to support advanced interactive applications. Seiden joined the CMC in 1996, concurrent with the development of the HITS (Headend In The Sky) service, and has previously served as Director of Headend Systems Development and as Director of System Integration. In these capacities, he worked on the development of technology for video headends, including the NAS (National Authorization Service). Designed for cable systems serving smaller markets, the NAS solution provides cable headends with the capability to receive, process, control and distribute digital video, audio interactive and data services without requiring a local Digital Access Control (DAC) system. Recent enhancements to NAS include the capability to support MPEG-4 set top boxes and DTAs from vendors using the SCTE-52 encryption standard as well as Motorola’s DC II encryption system. NAS is also designed to support CableCard-enabled devices and devices and applications that ride on the tru2way™ platform. Seiden also served as a Senior Systems Engineer for Comcast and its predecessor companies (AT&T Broadband), where his experiences included working on advanced digital set top boxes. Seiden holds a B.S. Degree in Computer Science Applications in Astrophysics from the University of Colorado at Boulder and he is currently working towards an MBA in International Business from Western International University. He is a member of SCTE, the Society of Cable Television Engineers among other professional organizations.
