Don Sunderland has over 25 years of technology leadership experience in a variety of roles and industries ranging from the Financial Industry to Education to Health. Since 2012 he has served as Deputy Commissioner for Application Development Management for the City of New York, where he leads a division of full-time employees and consultants in developing and supporting critical applications for the City, including NYC.gov, 311, and New York’s ground-breaking Open Data Initiative, which provides data from over 50 City agencies through a public portal and a variety of APIs. His responsibilities include delivering client-focused services for Application Development, Maintenance & Support, Project Management, QA, GIS, Strategic Initiatives & Advanced Technology as well as the development of standards and delivery methodologies for application development across departments and agencies within the City. He has also been instrumental in implementing the Technology Development Corporation, a City-run 501c(3) comprised of senior project leaders who provide hands-on management of critical multi-million dollar vendor-delivered technology projects.
