As machine learning becomes increasingly prevalent, the biggest issue it needs to address is bias. This paper explores some of the shortcomings of Artificial Intelligence(AI), focusing on the unconscious and institutional biases and provides a range of well-documented examples of AI decisions that are racist or sexist. It explores causes of these biases and proposes steps which could help reduce incidences of discrimination.
