VMFork, also known as Instant Clone provides fast provisioning of Virtual Machines (VM). However it requires a powered on parent VM template to fork child VMs. The idea we propose is to encapsulate the runtime state of the parent VM into a First Class Runtime (FCR) state so that parent VM is no longer needed. We show that using FCR greatly simplifies management and improves resource utilization.
