Description

As part of good governance practice, in January 2011 we employed consultants to do a "Health Check" on our company and looked at compliance standards. It was a huge surprise that we were not compliant in some areas as we have always had full site certification with: DG, Building WoF, Electrical and local authorities.

We undertook an upgrade programme with commitment to our customers, staff, environment and for future proofing the business.

Section 33 Variation gave us the legal framework to alternative solutions to non compliance.

We worked on a collaborative approach with a raft of stake holders eg EPA (now Worksafe), DoL, local and regional authorities, consultants, test certifiers, fire engineers customers, suppliers and staff.

An 18 month programme of assessment was undertaken that culminated in a Section 33 Variation being submitted and approved by the EPA. This was the start of an initial three year upgrade programme that focused on 3 specific goals: life safety of our staff during the upgrade, continued supply to our large customer base and adherence to the approved EPA programme. We will cover the many challenges, heart aches and successes with this $15 million upgrade programme. In the coming 2016/2017 financial year we will invest a further $5.4 million to achieve total compliance.

The presentation will end with a summary of what full compliance means to Damar's ongoing growth and prosperity.
