Description

The world of safety as we know it is changing. It's no longer just about safety professionals, managers, leaders, business owner etc. being the 'policeman' where compliance is the main focus & policies & procedures the guiding light. Yes they're important but we can have the best policies & procedures in place & we can pass every single audit we are subjected to with flying colours but people are still getting injured & people are still dying at work.

To achieve significant & sustainable change & truly transform our safety cultures & stop people from getting injured or dying, we need to look beyond compliance & put science at the heart of safety. We need to understand how people think & why they do the things they do & how we as leaders can transform ourselves & others into agile leaders of change & safety performance by learning how to think, regulate, engage, adapt & develop with the brain in mind & that's where Neuroscience comes in.

Neuroscience has taught us a lot about the brain & how it works. Our brain is a survival machine, it is constantly looking for threats around us the problem is that often because our brains are hardwired, it is constantly sending a message to our eyes to look for what our brain thinks is going on when in fact something completely different is happening.

Knowing this one simple fact about the human brain gives us powerful insight about how to prevent many of the human errors currently occurring in our workplaces which are resulting in our people being injured or killed. The great news from neuroscience is that we can 'rewire' our brains, create new neural pathways & create new habits which can make us more aware of what is happening around us.
