The presentation will provide an update on the HSNO reforms including:

  • Overview of the split of workplace controls from HSNO to the new Health and Safety at Work legislation. 
  • Clarification of the areas of hazardous substance regulation that will remain under the HSNO 
  • Development of EPA Notices, tertiary level legislative instruments that will replace many of the current HSNO regulations 
  • Changes to enforcement agency roles and responsibilities. 
There reforms have resulted in changes to the current enforcement functions of some HSNO enforcement agencies. In addition, the EPA has been given a new enforcement function

Target Audience: Users of hazardous substances, importers and manufacturers of hazardous substances, HSNO enforcement agencies, including Councils.
Aim: To provide delegates a better understanding of

  • the scope and objectives of the health and safety reforms as they relate to hazardous substances 
  • legislative changes relating to the management of hazardous substances in workplaces and non-places 
  • changes to enforcement agency roles and responsibilities, including the EPA's new enforcement function
