In ‘The Nenek Project’, we explored how DIY maker culture came into being in Indonesia. This project aimed to account for less dominant histories of DIY making by offering culturally and historically situated practices of elderly women - mothers of DIY hackers and technologists. Through ethnography, workshops and an exhibition, I demonstrate elderly women’s alternative approaches to DIY making.
