The current practice in flash cache technology is not optimal for cloud computing as it does not leverage the file popularities and stores all files for a very long retention time thus causing high damage. We devise an optimal online algorithm for jointly minimizing the content retrieval delay and the flash damage. The optimality of our algorithm is proved and compared against prior algorithms.
