SET Selection- How to Choose the Best Candidate

Selection into SET is probably the most important decision of the training process. Selecting the best young surgeons into our speciality, who have the ability to complete training and successfully navigate the examination is our task. If we get this wrong, then the outcome for our young colleagues can be devastating and the lost opportunities for those who miss out is a waste. I am going to discuss the evolution of the selection process to where we are today and why those changes occurred. I will the outline the proposed changes for the future explaining what we are hoping to achieve. I will finally review the outcomes of recent years to see how we are actually doing.
