An effective infection prevention and control (IPAC) program can improve resident safety in the long-term care (LTC) setting. Accessible IPAC resources that can be used by those with little or no formal training in IPAC offers reassurance to staff, resident/family councils, and administrators that IPAC is taken seriously. Public Health Ontario (PHO) utilizes a knowledge mobilization strategy to ensure that all LTC homes across the province have access to foundational IPAC resources, knowledge and experience. This involves online core competency modules, novice IPAC professional (ICP) workshops/webinars and IPAC communities of practice that are offered in different regions of the province. Each of these resources supports the LTC IPAC delegate to become oriented to the key IPAC issues they will encounter, as well as building a community of support which includes regional IPAC expertise from PHO. This session will showcase these three critical components of an effective support system for ICP in the LTC setting.
