From 2000 until 2003 Dr. Stefan Schmitt was an academic assistant at the Technical University of Dortmund, Germany. In parallel he ran two small scale self-owned businesses. From 2003 until 2008 he worked for Boston Consulting Group on numerous national and international projects.

In 2008 he joined the Corporate Strategy function of ThyssenKrupp AG. As deputy head of the function he was until recently responsible for regional development supporting diverse topics e.g. in North America, Brazil, India and Japan. In addition Dr. Schmitt founded 2009 the

ThyssenKrupp Management Consulting and was part of the Management team until 2013.

Starting October 1st 2013 he has been appointed as Regional CEO for Asia Pacific, based in Singapore. Until his move to Singapore Dr. Schmitt was head of the supervisory board of ASB Ruhr, a German regional social welfare organization, for many years.
