Dr John Alchin MBBS, FAFOEM (RACP); FFPMANZCA

Pain Physician, Pain Management Centre, Burwood Hospital, Christchurch, NZ

John initially trained in Sydney, worked for 5 years in rural general practice (Chatham Islands, and north-west Tasmania), and then trained in Occupational Medicine in Dunedin and Christchurch, during which time he developed an obsessional interest in pain.  After being made redundant by Air NZ in 1997 as part of a management restructure, code-named “Project Save”, which involved the dissolution – temporary, as it turned out – of the Air NZ occupational medical units in Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch, he has since 1998 been lucky enough to be paid for indulging in his interest in pain medicine, working at the Pain Management Centre at Burwood Hospital in Christchurch.
