To support the long-standing efforts of the LTC community, Health Quality Ontario is introducing a new topic to the Long-Term Care Practice Reports. These reports are designed to provide data on prescribing practices, contextual information and comparators to physicians working in LTC to aid in quality improvement efforts. Following the initial indicators profiling antipsychotic prescribing, the latest enhancement of the LTCPR includes two new indicators on medications that may increase the risk of falls and adverse events for residents on these medications.  These indicators are designed to capture one aspect of the complex etiology of falls, that is, the use of benzodiazepines and CNS active medications.  Coupled with the indicators are several change ideas to prompt practice self- eflection and support reviewing options for minimizing the risk of falls related to medications.
