Are You A Disruptive Surgeon? (Formerly titled “Are You An A**hole?)

The recent RACS Expert Advisory Group findings with regard to discrimination, bullying and sexual harassment (DBSH) have made for grim reading and a scramble to “sort things out” by the College. Interestingly it’s quite easy to find surgeons who report the times they themselves have been the victims of DBSH by colleagues, but virtually impossible to find surgeons who admit to being the perpetrators. This presentation will be an exploration of what leads to clinicians of any discipline being perceived as disruptive, difficult, bullying or just plain A**holes. The clinical and business consequences of this will be described. Techniques for moderating both perceptions and behaviours will be addressed. It is quite likely that there will be some low-level swearing during this presentation, so please do not attend if this is likely to cause offence.

How to Get the Most Out of Your Anaesthetist

This brief talk will address the physiological and pharmacological variables that Anaesthetists can manipulate to improve surgical conditions, and outcomes for the patient.
