Recreation calendars are useful tools to ensure activities are scheduled in a way that meets residents’ needs, however the result is that their days become defined by program times and places that have been scheduled for them, often weeks in advance. But how well do our calendars actually meet residents’ needs and reflect their preferences? Are we including all residents? Do residents have a voice in determining what their day may look like? This session will explore these questions and provide a clearer picture of what engaging programming looks like. Participants will take a critical look at calendar planning, evaluate their own calendars and be encouraged to explore alternative approaches to calendar design that create opportunities for resident choice and spontaneity.
