ABSTRACT

Title: Zika Virus Infection In Pregnancy: A New Epidemic

Reports of an association between the Zika virus and congenital microcephaly were first published in 2015 when an unusual peak in the incidence of microcephaly was reported during an outbreak of Zika virus infection. The World Health Organisation declared a Public Health Emergency of International Concern on 1 February 2016. Efforts to understand whether this association is causative, as well as the options for prevention, detection and management of Zika virus infection in pregnancy have evolved rapidly.
