ABSTRACT

Challenges Of The Cardiorenal Axis In The Northern Territory
Presenter: Dr Sandawana William Majoni

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a major cause of high morbidity and mortality among Indigenous people of the Northern Territory of Australia. There is also associated high prevalence of cardiovascular disease (CVD) and with CKD as an independent predictor of CVD, the prevalence of both conditions in the Indigenous people is even higher.  There is significant dearth of published data showing the “cross-talk” between the 2 systems and the associated difficult clinical management and poor clinical outcomes. The presentation aims to give a perspective on the challenges of the complex management of the complications associated with the Cardiorenal axis in Indigenous patients of the Northern Territory.
