Abstract Text: The SOMANZ sepsis guideline will be presented. The clinical guidelines have been written to provide a basis for local hospital guidelines across Australia and New Zealand. The guideline covers sepsis inclusive of the recent definition, both in pregnancy and the post partum period.  The aetiology, investigation and treatment of bacterial, viral and non-infective causes of sepsis are discussed. Obstetric considerations relevant to anaesthetic and intensive care treatment in sepsis are also covered. The guideline has been formed by a multi-disciplinary group of obstetricians, obstetric physicians, anaesthetists, infectious disease and intensive care specialists, general practitioners, midwives, pharmacists and consumers.  The guideline offers practice improvement points by which institutions can audit their practice.
