Deborah Hogan, PhD Deborah Hogan is an associate professor in Microbiology and Immunology at the Geisel School of Medicine at Dartmouth. She received her PhD from Michigan State University, and completed her post doc at Harvard Medical School. Her research focuses on the interactions between microbial cells-both within a species and between species with a specific focus on chronic infections that occur in the CF lung. Many of her studies focus on Pseudomonas aeruginosa and its adaptation to a low oxygen environment, and the fungus Candida albicans and its response to bacterial factors that influence its metabolism. In her talk, she will describe the used of human samples and laboratory models to learn about P. aeruginosa virulence in the CF lung, and the use of computational biology methods to gain better insight into which pathways are induced in vivo. Dr. Hogan and her lab hope to better understand how chronic lung infections develop and how they can best be treated. |
