Malcolm J. D’Souza is professor of chemistry at Wesley College, Delaware. He is the principal investigator on the Wesley DE-INBRE, DE-EPSCoR, NSF-ARRA, and Cannon Scholar (NSF S-STEM) programs. The Delaware BioScience Association selected Dr. D’Souza as its 2016 Educator of the Year in Higher Education. In 2012, he was awarded the American Chemical Society’s E. Emmett Reid Award, which recognizes high-quality teaching in chemistry at small colleges in the Mid-Atlantic region. In 2009, the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, Northern Illinois University, recognized Dr. D’Souza as one of its 50 most distinguished alumni. In addition to his research in physical organic chemistry, Dr. D'Souza has projects, presentations and publications in the areas of small-molecule synthesis, chemometrics, STEM education, obesity studies, and in the design of (commercial) pharmaceutical and agricultural databases. Dr. D’Souza also serves as the Wesley College associate dean of interdisciplinary/collaborative sponsored research.

Since 1992, Dr. D'Souza has mentored 191 undergraduates, 68% percent are from underrepresented populations. Ninety-three mentees have earned national/regional awards and 77 are co-authors on his peer-reviewed publications. In addition, Dr. D'Souza has participated in productive mentor-protege relationships with 23 faculty from a variety of disciplines.
