Title: (Talk is within the Notebook to Publication Workshop): The road to publication and preprints as a parallel path

Prachee Avasthi is Assistant Professor of Anatomy and Cell Biology and Assistant Professor of Ophthalmology at the University of Kansas Medical Center. She received her PhD in Neuroscience at the University of Utah and completed her postdoctoral training at the University of California San Francisco. Using the flagella of the unicellular green alga, Chlamydomonas reinhardtii, the Avasthi Lab (www.avasthilab.org) identifies novel signaling and trafficking mechanisms regulating the structure and maintenance of the ubiquitous cellular antenna, the cilium. Regulation of the cilium has major implications for the development of ciliopathies and related diseases such as retinal degeneration, cystic kidney disease, hydrocephalus, obesity, diabetes and cancer. Dr. Avasthi is a strong advocate for the ASAPbio movement (www.asapbio.org) to accelerate scientific communication and promote the use of preprints in the life sciences.
