This introductory workshop is for those working or interested in clinical trial research who may encounter health economics as part of a trial process, in research papers or policy documents. The workshop will introduce participants to the principles of health economics and economic evaluation, and how they apply to decisions of resource allocation in the health care setting. The focus of the session will be on role of clinical trials in collecting the data used for economic evaluations; the implications for study design and conduct, as well as the steps involved in carrying out an economic evaluation.
