Christopher Platt has worked in libraries for over 20 years. His experience includes overseeing selection for Queens Library System, one of the most heavily used library systems in the U.S., and managing the collection development team at the book wholesaler Baker & Taylor, which works with libraries across the U.S. on a variety of ongoing selection and opening-day collection projects.   In 2007, he joined The New York Public Library, where he is now Director of Collections and Circulation Operations, coordinating the purchasing, cataloging, processing and distribution of over 1 million new items and e-resources for 90 locations serving 3.3 Million residents across The Bronx, Manhattan, and Staten Island.  

An advocate for greater understanding and dialogue between the library and publishing sectors of the book industry, he has most recently participated in panel discussions or led presentations at:
•    Library Journal’s Day of Dialog in 2010 on e-books in libraries and 2009 on supporting library reading in lean times
•    BISG’s 2007 BookExpo session on ‘The Business Case for RFID in Bookstores’
•    “BookNext: the Future of Reading” (biblionext.it), the 2011 library and publishing industry conference sponsored by the  U.S. Embassy and American University in Rome, presenting on NYPL’s experience with popular e-books
•    “The 19th Annual Conference for Children’s, Young Adult, and School Librarians” sponsored by the German Sanchez Ruiperez Foundation on NYPL’s experience with engaging online patrons via e-books, programming and social media.   
•    DBW2011’s “E-book Ecosystem—Where do Libraries Fit?”
