BIOGRAPHY
Nick Fisher is an interventional cardiologist. He is head of the department of cardiology for Nelson Marlborough DHB, the non metropolitan representative on the cardiac society and the head of the central cardiac network. He retired from the Royal Navy in 2006 as the cardiologist for the armed forces. His passion is efficient high quality health care independent of geography and he is the author of the” New Zealand minimum standards of access to secondary cardiac care” which has been adopted by the cardiac networks in their pursuit of more equity in health care provision within New Zealand.

ABSTRACT
Use of national minimum standards and telemedicine to achieve regional equity of care

We need to challenge our traditional models of healthcare provision with the aim of ensuring that all patients with a significant pathology are diagnosed and treated in a timely manner.  Rapid access to diagnostic investigations and specialist decision making can be facilitated by a combination a clear audited care pathways and telemedicine. Cardiology care in Nelson Marlborough DHB  has established both or these and we share our experiences with you today
