Dr Brigitte Gertoberens 
Specialist Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist, The Auckland Regional Pain Service, Auckland, NZ

Dr Gertoberens is a German trained Specialist Anaesthetist and Pain Medicine Specialist. She graduated from Medical School at the University of Duesseldorf in November 1978 and completed her training in Anaesthetics in 1984. She became a Pain Medicine Specialist passing the exam at the University of Duesseldorf in 2004.When starting her training in Anaesthetics in January 1979, she got already involved in pain management. Ever since she has developed a passion for Pain Medicine and set up a pain service at a rural hospital where she was head of the department for 10 years before she started her own clinic. 

She was amongst the first Anaesthetists in Germany providing community based day surgery and ran her day surgery clinic where she also provided pain clinics till she moved to New Zealand in 2006. Dr Gertoberens has been working as a consultant with the Auckland Regional Pain Service since 2006. 

She is a member of IASP, a member of the New Zealand Pain Society and the German Anaesthetist’s Association. 

Since May 2013 she is also a Fellow of the Faculty of Pain Medicine ANZCA (Australian New Zealand College of Anaesthetists). 

Dr Gertoberens was the president of the New Zealand Pain Society from March 2012 till March 2014.
