1: iCan - How and Why to use Tablet Computers  - in Healthcare Education

Workshop Description

This workshop will:

  • Review the pedagogy supporting the use of tablet computing in undergraduate healthcare education. 
  • Share the experiences we have had in a variety of contexts of use of these devices in a medical undergraduate curricular context, including OSCE, admissions, attendance monitoring, student use, and patient feedback.
  • Discuss practical issues such as logistics, device management, required infrastructure and issues at University/NHS interfaces
  • Give participants hands-on experience with apps

 

Workshop Objectives

Participants will be able to:

  • Summarise the pedagogy relating to tablet computing in healthcare education
  • Describe what applications may be suitable for tablet devices
  • Discuss the strengths and weakness of different platforms
  • List the key practical issues to consider when introducing tablet devices for defined tasks
  • Use a variety of apps in a variety of contexts
  • State if and how tablet computing could be used in their own institutions
