Nicholas (Nick) Jones is the interim Associate Vice-President (Research) and the Dean, Faculty of Graduate Studies and Research (FGSR) as of June 1, 2019. Shortly after joining FGSR, Nick was also appointed the Executive Director of the Canadian Institute for Public Safety Research and Treatment (CIPSRT). Nick started at the University of Regina in 2006 in the Department of Justice Studies. He was the Coordinator of the Police Studies program from July 2007 until June 2012. He served as Department Head from July 2015 through June 2018 when he became the Associate Dean (Research and Graduate Studies) for the Faculty of Arts. Before his academic career, he worked as a counsellor at a halfway house, a youth correctional worker, and received training as a facilitator of family group conferencing. Jones is an associate professor and holds a Bachelor of Arts (psychology and sociology) from the University of Calgary, a Master of Administration of Justice from San Jose State University, and a PhD from the University of Calgary. His doctoral work examined the judicial response to the Rwandan genocide. He has an active research program focussing primarily on restorative justice, transitional justice, policing, genocide, and Indigenous justice.
