Making Teacher PD More Effective: Energize Your Practices

As providers of teacher professional development (PD), we know that informal science education (ISE) centers provide an ideal setting for learning, capitalizing on creative and interactive approaches that easily inspire teachers. As ISE professionals, we know that this work is demanding, and that it can be a challenge to share effective practices about how to best use informal learning environments.

Join ASTC, Museum Institute for Teaching Science (MITS), and our host, the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago for an engaging two-day workshop to explore effective models of teacher professional development in ISE settings. Learn with peers who share  your passion, step out of your isolation and dive into activities that can help you maximize your resources and re-energize your approaches with new ideas. Try out practices you can use right away, and create your own action plan to incorporate elements of the best models for your institution.

This workshop will use the topic of energy literacy to examine tools and resources that support teachers of multiple grade levels. Workshop participants will also have the chance to examine the newest science standards. Day One will focus on effective PD models; Day Two will put new insights into practice during an energy-themed PD workshop with local classroom teachers.

Participants will receive:

  • Resources and activities to take back to their institution
  • Catered breakfast and lunch
  • Free two-day admission to Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago
  • (Optional) Travel stipend up to $100 (Contact for more information.)
