Developing Effective Hospital-Based Weaning Programs 

First Annual Symposium

Goals & Objectives:

After active engagement in this program, participants will be better able to:

  1. Assess, evaluate and often mitigate the impact of prolonged mechanical ventilation on the health system in Ontario.
  2. To identify and address the key barriers to weaning from mechanical ventilation at the level of both patient and health system.
  3. To review and apply evidence-based and interdisciplinary strategies for prolonged weaning, focusing on both prevention and treatment.


Target Audience: Multi-disciplinary, health care team from hospital centers which includes: intensivists, ICU nurses, respiratory therapists, managers and administrators, physiotherapists, dieticians, psychologists, hospital administration as well as representatives from the 14 LHINs.
