Emily Jacobson is the owner of Constellation Government Communications, a consulting firm specializing in writing training for the public sector. She also works as a reporting specialist in the Audit Services Division of the City and County of Denver’s Auditor’s Office. Emily helps audit teams produce clear, compelling, and innovative audit reports. Prior to the writing phase, she helps audit teams by facilitating storyboarding sessions, crafting message statements, developing report outlines, and coaching individual writers. Once a draft is written, she reviews for everything from punctuation and grammar to tone, organization, flow, sufficiency of evidence, quality of criteria, and data visualization.

Prior to joining the Denver Auditor’s Office in 2011, Emily was the marketing director at a midsize law firm in Denver, and prior to that she worked as a marketing manager for a large Denver corporate law firm. During her time as a law firm marketer she was responsible for a variety of branding, business development, market research, and internal communications activities. Emily began her career with the state of Colorado in the Office of Legislative Legal Services where she worked as a legislative assistant editing bills, amendments, resolutions, and memorials.

Emily holds a master of public administration degree from the University of Colorado Denver and a bachelor of arts degree from the University of Colorado Boulder where she majored in political science. She is a member of the Association of Local Government Auditors where she serves on the Publications Committee and was the editor of the Local Government Auditing Quarterly.
