15th International Symposium of the World Society Victimology

Welcome to the 15th International Symposium of the World Society of Victimology

Victims Support Australia in partnership with angelhands Inc. are delighted to invite you to the 15th International Symposium of the World Society of Victimology (WSV) which will be held in Perth, Western Australia at the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre on the 5-9 July 2015.

The Symposium invites International and Australian presenters from the broader discipline of Victimology and brings them together in one of Australia's most beautiful cities. Western Australia is a community that is at the forefront of victim support services.

The overarching theme is Victimisation, justice and healing: Challenging orthodoxies. The theme is designed to provide a focus on sharing best practice, emerging responses, and critical reflection on contemporary conceptualisations of victimisation and justice in various settings and disciplines – from the world of ‘ordinary’ crime, to post-colonial and post-conflict settings, and to transnational, cyber and institutional environments.

This Symposium follows on from the successful 14th International Symposium of the World Society of Victimology, Justice for Victims: Cross-cultural perspectives on conflict, trauma and reconciliation which was held in The Hague, The Netherlands in 2012.

The Symposium is being organised by the WSV, Victim Support Australia, angelhands and the Australian Institute of Criminology with considerable support from the Western Australian Government.

The 15th International WSV Symposium will provide a unique opportunity for international engagement with victimologists, victim services practitioners, the judiciary, policing, researchers, non-Government organisations and policy makers.
