Japan Customs carries out the three missions: ensuring people’s security and safety through effective boarder enforcement, collecting customs duties and domestic consumption taxes appropriately and fairly, and facilitating trade.

In order to tackle the various challenges Customs is facing, especially the growing threat of international terrorism, Japan Customs is committed to making utmost efforts under those three missions with the effective utilization of technologies in cooperation with the other stakeholders including foreign Customs authorities, other government agencies and private sectors.

The World Customs Organization (WCO), established in 1952 as the Customs Co-operation Council (CCC) is an independent intergovernmental body whose mission is to enhance the effectiveness and efficiency of Customs administrations.

Today, the WCO represents 182 Customs administrations across the globe that collectively process approximately 98% of world trade. As the global centre of Customs expertise, the WCO is the only international organization with competence in Customs matters and can rightly call itself the voice of the international Customs community.

The WCO has developed several applications and tools for its Members to facilitate access to Customs-related news, provide them with information on the technologies which matter to them, as well as enable them to collect, store, analyse and disseminate law enforcement data effectively at national, regional and international levels.
